I have recently converted to GMail thanks to Mailplane and have to say I am finding GMail an amazingly effective mail client, not just because of its superb spam filtering but the power of its filters and threaded messages.

Really worth a serious look even if you have put it off because you think a web email client cant possibly be as powerful as a desktop app.

If you install the gmail notifier, there is an option to make sure all email links are handled by the gmail website. The application is small and can be found at googles site.
