Firewire Target Disk Mode

In Target Disk Mode, my computer can be seen on another Mac as a Firewire Hard Drive.

Connect a 6-pin to 6-pin Firewire Cable between the Target and Host Mac.

Make sure no other Firewire devices are plugged into either Mac.

Shutdown the Target Mac.

Make sure both Macs are powered by an AC power adapter.

Hold Down T while I power up my Mac until the Firewire icon appears.

In the catastrophic event of a Hard Drive failure or OS X crashes, I boot up my Mac in Target Disk Mode. If I want to Migrate my data from one Mac to another, I need to use this method. Sometimes I even share files over my firewire cable with friends. If I have an older G3 that does not have a DVD drive, I can use Target Disk Mode to install Tiger OS X 10.4.

CompUSA rips people off on the price of a 6″ Firewire cable. I walked in there the other day and saw 6″ Firewire cables on the shelf, all over $40. Buy one online or through the Apple Store.
